OverviewThe "Friends of Reignhead Barn" consist of a small group of Beighton residents who have, over the years become more and more concerned for the demise of the Reignhead Farm buildings. The site, since ownership has past to Sheffield Council, has been neglected and many would say, deliberately left to fall into ruin. There is particular concern for the "winnowing barn" that from an external view looks less than spectacular but hides an impressive interior (take a look on the Gallery page). A settlement with a similar footprint to that of the modern farm layout can be seen on the Beighton Enclosures map held in the Sheffield Archives and which is dated 1799. In any event after consultation with 'experts' it is believed that the barn is at least 250 years old. Research of the Farm itself and the farm buildings in particular has proved a very difficult task and in fact pretty fruitless. Long hours trawling through the Sheffield and Derbyshire Archives have unearthed very little general information about the site let alone any detailed data. The research which we have been carrying out for at least two years continues but we desperately need to record any information that people may hold. IF YOU CAN HELP WITH ANY INFORMATION ON THE FARM AND/OR BARN or the everyday life of the people who worked it then we would love to hear from you. We are especially interested in the early history of the site but all information is gratefully received. If you have information please e-mail Us at: info@reignhead.co.uk IF YOU HAVE EXPERTISE WHICH YOU FEEL MAY BE OF USE TO OUR FIGHT TO PRESERVE THE BARN AND YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER YOUR SERVICES then please e-mail: andyeverest@reignhead.co.uk
